Training for Livelihood

The Chenchu Community predominantly depends on Non Timber Forest Produce (NTFP) for their daily sustenance. They collect honey, gum, stems, tubers, roots, leaves, tamarind, fruits and other forest produce available in Nallamala forests and sell them at the Girijan Co-operative depots established by the Tribal Welfare Department and buy Rice, oils, pulses etc from the depots located in their habitation or nearby.

BDS  has planned to focus on the activities which provide greater support to their daily sustenance. Ex: Extraction of Gum, Honey and leaf making. BDS has trained Chenchu Youth in the extraction of Gum and Honey with the Technology borrowed from Centre for Science in Villages Wardha, Maharashtra.
