Dedicated struggle and persistent / continuous efforts by BDS for justice to the vulnerable communities and development of the most deprived sections has been successful on several occasions.

  • Established medical evidence of Silicosis among the former workers of APMDC who had been exposed to silica from 1965-75 and got the order for payment of compensation to the silicosis affected by the High court of AP. Convinced the Executive Director to recommend for the acceptance of the list of workers prepared by the district Collector for payment of compensation instead of insisting on the proof of employment, evidence of  disease for the 300 workers who have died between 1970 and August 2013. A committee is formed to identify the affected people. 
  • Above 3000 children belonging to Lambada(ST), SC and other backward communities have been enrolled into govt. schools through non-formal education. 
  • Facilitated speedy clearance of 3 schemes to supply drinking water to 604 villages in endemic fluoride areas of Nalgonda through a Public Hearing on Fluorosis with 1600 crippled people.
  • BDS in collaboration with Centre for Action Research & People’s Development (CARPED) facilitated collection of 10,000 water samples for testing by IPM and also compensation of Rs 40 million to 400 Tribal families in Adilabad district who have lost lives due to Gastro enteritis and malaria during 1998-1999.  
  • BDS and CARPED speeded up conducting of free surgeries for children suffering from congenital heart diseases through public interest litigation (PIL) and lobbying with the Government 
  • Successfully advocated for augmentation of drinking water supply to twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and water to en route fluoride affected villages in Nalgonda and Ranga Reddy districts from river Krishna and assured supplies of 5TMC of water to ayacut under Ghanpur Anicut and NSR projects from River Manjeera through public hearings, Lobbying with the experts, Commissioner projects GOI& and elected reps and finally media campaign.
  • Sensitised the elected representatives of the opposition party to highlight the irregularities in the power sector in the Assembly and before the APERC and also sensitised Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission by organising a public hearing which was attended by the opposition parties and CBOs.
  • Successfully established the failure of BT Cotton by the Agriculture University and Department which paved a way for the reduction of price of BT Cotton seed from Rs 1600 to 750 for a pack of 400gms.
  •  Successfully prevented the closure of IPM -ARV manufacturing unit by the government of AP.
  • Successfully blocked the landing of the Telugu Talli flyover close by to the revetment of the Hussain Sagar earthen bund which poses a threat of breaching away the bund due to development of cracks owing to sound frequencies generated by the vehicles.  
  • Won trust and ensured participation of the Chenchus in village development activities, vegetable cultivation and adopting improved techniques for collection of gum and honey and also groomed them to raise their voice against corruption. Prevented the Chenchus of Mahabubnagar and Prakasham districts from being relocated / shifted to plain areas on flimsy grounds.
